About: DARK STAR WILDLIFE NURSERY

I have always had a passion for Wildlife. In particular the Black Bear. But don't get me wrong I love all creatures great and small.

This is why I have chosen to do

-NON-PROFIT-

-Wildlife Rehabilitation-

&

-Release-

I received my Novice Permit from the State of Minnesota on August 9th 2007. In which I will pursue to have my Masters Permit in
3 1/2 years.

I have now (August 2009.).. passed my test for my General's and will be getting my new permit !!! I will be able to expand my wildlife I take in!!!

DARK STAR WILDLIFE NURSERY is located on 6 acres in rural Pengilly , Minnesota.

Here at DARK STAR:

Possession for rehabilitation for healthy orphaned wildlife that are neither endangered or threatened species. No migratory birds  or Birds of Prey(Owls,Hawks,Falcons,Eagles,Osprey....).

Possession for transport any orphaned, sick or injured wildlife(including endangered and threatened species) For up to 48 hours . Such wildlife can be captured  by myself or received from others. Wildlife that I can not rehabilitate here under my permit, But I can hold here for 48 hours then are to be transported

To :

A Licensed Veterinarian -  Master Rehabilitation...Garrison  Animal Hospital . Or a General Rehabilitation.

Unfortunately I can not care for all wildlife that I receive calls on. My facility is run only by myself with help from my Boyfriend Doran, And Karla who is a great friend ,and always there when the going gets tough. Also I'm allowed  5 volenteers to work under my Permit.

I will only take Wildlife I feel I can give proper care to and what my permit allows me to rehabilitate. Also what my pocket book allows me to spend.  It can get very  spendy with the cost of food, shelter, cleaning supplies, first aid and medical supplies.

As much as I do not like too  some times I have to say no too taking in some wildlife, But we usually have another facility you can contact if we are unable to take in wildlife. Also we do not take in wildlife in the winter months of November through March.

Wildlife Rehabilitation is  a challenging  but rewarding Profession, In witch consumes a lot of Time ,Money ,Space and Responsibility caring for these less fortunate animals that would not survive in the wild or on there own without Rehabilitation.

But  There Is No Other More Rewarding !! , Thrilling !!  Feeling!!...I Get When I Release One Of These Magnificent Animals And Watch Them Run or Fly  back into the wild Knowing They Are
Wild And Free Again!!

Deer leave there young alone many hours a day. For a couple of weeks after birth, fawns lay still all day while there mother is away feeding, If you observe a fawn without its mother, Do not disturb.touch, or pickup. Look along the roadway for any lactating doe that may have been killed by a vehicle, if not observe the fawn from a distance at  about 100 feet away. As the Mother will not come to her fawn if she senses there is danger near such as people or predators. Leave the fawn overnight if it is still there the next morning ,
